Recipe Review ~ Tortellini in Brodo

This is my ultimate go-to soup for when I feel a cold coming on or just when it is feeling chilly outside. I actually don't make the full batch. I keep the ingredients on hand at all times in the colder months, and make individual portions when I want to have some.

Tortellini in Brodo (Aka-Tortellini in Broth)

Ingredients:

  • 3 quarts chicken stock
  • 2 10-ounce bags spinach
  • 2 bags frozen cheese-filled tortellini
  • A handful of flat-leaf parsley leaves
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • A couple of handfuls of Parmigiano Reggiano
  • A loaf of crusty bread
Directions:

In a large pot, bring stock up to a boil. Drop in the frozen tortellini. Give it a stir and cook according to package directions.

When tortellini are done and look like puffed up pillows, ladle soup into soup bowls. Wilt a few leaves of spinach into each bowl.

Top with some lemon zest and a small handful of Parmigiano. Serve with some crusty bread alongside.

(Recipe courtesy of Rachael Ray)

This is mine and my husbands favorite! We eat it often and so do our lil' peanuts. They enjoy it just as much as we do. Sometimes, they don't want the spinach, but either way, it is definitely a much healthier alternative to canned soups!

Welcome Ashley to The Patch

Ashley is mom to four beautiful children, John 17, Andi 15, Landon 4 and Addi 2 and wife to her husband Mike. She resides in Tennessee and is one of the marvelous mommies behind the online boutique, Three Pine Design.

Welcome Ashley to The Patch!
TLPP: What is a  “normal” day like for you?
AshleyA normal day consists of getting up at 6am to get myself ready.  I then go downstairs and pack lunches for my two youngest children for preschool.  My two oldest children are old enough now to get themselves up and ready for school, so that is nice.  I get the little ones up at 7am, and they tell Daddy bye as he leaves for work.  We eat, get ready, organize book bags, tell the big kids bye around 7:45 and are out the door by 8:30.  I take them to preschool by 9am, and then I go down the road to a Physical Therapy clinic where I work, while they are in preschool.  I leave work at 1:45 pm to pick the kids up at preschool by 2 pm.  We come home, organize, eat a snack and the big kids are home by 4 pm.  I catch up with them, do a few chores and then start dinner around 5 pm. We usually eat around 6 or 6:30, then it is time for baths, big kid homework, and some down time before the little ones go up for the nightly bedtime routine around 8:15 pm. Once the little ones are in the bed, I don’t feel like doing anything except crashing on the couch for some downtime with the older kids and dad! I try to be in bed by 10:30 pm and then wake up and do it all over again. This is my schedule on Tues, Wed, and Thurs,  and then I use Mon and Friday as chore days  and errand days.  I also work two weekends a month at a hospital. Between everyone’s schedule, it stays pretty busy!

TLPP: What has been the best  advice you have received?
AshleyTo not get too busy that you don’t recognize and appreciate the special moments of life either with friends, a spouse or your children.

TLPP: What is your biggest  challenge as a parent?
AshleyTo balance all the needs of my family and still have time for my needs. To try and keep life in a healthy perspective each day.

TLPP: What is your favorite  time of day?
AshleyTwo times:  1) when my little ones are all clean and smell so good and we sit and read together before bed  2) after the little ones are in bed and we sit with the older kids and just hang out, visit or watch TV together.

TLPP: What has been your best  moment so far?
AshleyI can not pick just one.  I truly  LOVE  being a mom and have had so many wonderful and special moments with each one of my children.  I always treasure the times when I have all my children together for an activity. (That gets harder with a 17 and 15 year old!)

TLPP: What are your kids  into/their favorite thing?
AshleyJohn (17) loves music.  He plays the guitar and drums.  He is very talented!!!  Andi (15)  She loves music too and also loves the arts including drama and singing.  She is also an avid reader.  Landon (4.5)  loves anything and everything cars and trucks!!  He really is obsessed! Addison (2.5)  she likes anything “pink” right now and also loves Cinderella, even though her dress is blue!

TLPP: Name one product you  can’t live without?
AshleyI guess I could do it, but I would hate to live without a washer and a dryer!!  With 6 people in the house we have A LOT of laundry!!

TLPP: What advice would you  give to new moms out there?
AshleyTo try and keep things in perspective and always treasure the small, special moments with your children.  Keep up with the things that just HAVE to be done around the house to keep it flowing smoothly (like laundry, dishes, straightening, etc.), and then let the bigger things go without feeling guilty.  If you can keep up with the necessities of the home, it will also help your personal stress level to stay low.

TLPP: How do you find time for  yourself?
AshleyHonestly, during the week I do not have a lot of “me” time.  The best way for me to really have time alone to do my own thing is to schedule it in advance.  I try to have at least one day a month scheduled with my husband for me to escape for a while, and leave the kids at home.  Most of the time I can fit it into our busy family life, and when I have a day it is very appreciated!

TLPP: What is your favorite  thing/treat you do for yourself?
Ashley: Since I try to be frugal,  a trip to Starbucks is a treat every once in a while. For a big treat, I would go to see a movie or better yet a show, or let myself buy a new outfit / accessory / shoes, etc.  I LOVE to shop!

TLPP: Being a mom, what is the most valuable lesson you have learned so far?
Ashley: That life is far more fulfilling when you spend it focused on those you love rather than yourself.

Thank you Ashley!

Inspire Your Views, One Wall at a Time

Inspire Your Walls is the affordable way to dress up your walls on a budget. They simply sell vinyl lettering for less than their competitors. They think that dressing up your walls should be affordable and not break the bank! I completely agree! In fact, Karyn and I both have Inspired Walls sayings on our very own walls and we absolutely love them!

I think this is such a great idea, especially for those who are renting and have lots of white walls. There are so many different sayings and fonts to choose from. You can even choose your own saying! The best part is that they are super easy to apply.

Take a look around their website where you will find something for every room in your house.

Inspire Your Walls is giving one lucky reader a $20 gift certificate to use at www.InspireYourWalls.com! They are also offering a 15% discount to our readers. All you have to do is enter the code "LPP15" during checkout.

**To enter to win, email us at contests@TheLilPeanutPatch.com with "Inspire" in the subject line and tell us which saying you would choose. A winner will be announced on the 30th!**

Carissa Black Bags & Accessories

What girl doesn't love a new handbag? I know that I do! I was thrilled when I came across Carissa Black. She makes all different kinds of bags, wristlets and wallets.

She has several different fabrics to choose from as well as styles of bags. Here a couple of our favorites....

I am drooling over this wristlet! It is definitely on my Christmas wish list this year. It would fit perfectly in my diaper bag, but would be cute enough to carry around when I'm out by myself (which is hardly ever!).

Carissa Black even makes aprons! This is just one of the many that she has in her shop. Makes ya want to go whip something up, doesn't it?

Stop by Carissa Black's shop today and I'm sure you will find something that you just have to have!

Carissa has been so kind to offer a 20% discount exclusively for our Lil' Peanut Patch readers. All you need to do, is put "PEANUT20%" in the notes section when checking out.
Thanks, Carissa!

Lil' Peanut of The Week

Emily is the sweetest 7 month old baby. She always has a smile on her face and loves to study everything around her. Mommy made her this tutu she is wearing and it was all she could do to get a picture without it in her mouth. She is a true joy to have and her mommy hopes that she takes her sweet time in growing up.

If you would like to enter your peanut into the Lil' Peanut of the Week contest, email Amy@TheLilPeanutPatch.com with "Peanut" in the subject line. Email us a picture and a few tidbits about your little one!

Are You A Little Miss Matched??

When I came across Little Miss Matched, it was love at first site! From books to bedding, Pj's to pencil pouches and flip flops to furniture....all of their products are designed to be fun, creative, wholesome, innovative and evergreen.

My Lil' Peanut's favorite clothing item these days are her adorable Little Miss Matched socks. They come in packs of three, so that if they dryer eats one, it doesn't matter! Clever, isn't it?! These 3 packs come with three different socks that still coordinate in a fun way.

Little Miss Matched carries items for everyone in the family....even moms! You must check out their website and see all that they have to offer. There are simply too many wonderful things to list!

One of the things that Karyn and I both loved about Little Miss Matched, is their Missmatched Fun section on their website. It is a great (and safe) place for your lil' peanuts to play. In fact, I put my daughter to the test. I sat her down at the computer, pulled up the site and told her to have it! She had a complete ball dressing up Little Miss Matched in her winter clothing, playing a fun game of memory and searching for lost socks.

One lucky reader is going to get to experience Little Miss Matched for themselves. They are giving away one of their books, "The Artist In Me"!

**To enter to win, email us at contests@TheLilPeanutPatch.com with "LMM" in the subject line and tell us what your favorite Little Miss Matched item is. A winner will be announced on the 30th!**

Chicks-n-Chickens

Recently, I received a copy of Lullaby Exercises DVD/CD set by  Chicks-n-Chickens for review. Lullaby Exercises is a series of fun, easy to learn movements, that you do while holding your baby in your arms or a baby carrier. It's designed to share moments with your little one, help put them to sleep and for moms to feel good emotionally and physically.

chicks-n-chickens

I have to be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect and what type of workout I would get while holding my lil' peanut. I was pleasantly surprised!! Me and my peanut were grooving. The moves were very easy to learn and the music was fantastic! It didn't feel like a workout at all, well I take that back my legs were feeling it all day, which is a good thing!

This is a workout that I am definitely going to incorporate into my daily/weekly schedule. My lil peanut had such a great time and so did I! Plus, I know I am going to see results. It made working out fun and let's face it, those two usually don't go together!

To win a copy of Lullaby Exercises by Chicks-n-Chickens email us at contests@thelilpeanutpatch.com with Chicks in the subject line and tell us the names of the "Chicks" behind Chicks-n-Chickens. A winner will be announced on December 30th.

Fill in the Blankie

We recently discovered the very creative company, Fill in the Blankie. There are many blankie companies out there but this one is much different! Talk about personalization, you can use up to 200 characters per blankie! They will embroider all 4 sides of the blankie for your lil peanut.
The process is so easy! First you pick out your blankie. You can choose from 8 different styles. After you make your choice, you can get started on designing the edges and what you would like embroidered, whether it is for a new baby, celebrating a birthday, baptism, or an adoption the options are endless!

To win an embroidered blankie of your choice email us at contests@thelilpeanutpatch.com with "Blankie" in the subject line and tell us what you would say with 200 characters if you had your very own ULTRA personalize blankie from Fill in the Blankie. A winner will be announced on December 20th.

My Favorite Product

As a mom, I am always busy changing a diaper, washing dishes, wiping dirty hands, etc. It feels like I am constantly washing my hands. My hands sure show it because of how dry they get.

I have tried several different lotions but Gold Bond Ultimate Healing Lotion is the only one that has passed my test! I keep a bottle in the kitchen near my sink so that every time I wash my hands I can put a squirt of lotion on my hands. It is the best that I have ever tried. It keeps my hands looking and feeling moisturized.

Do you have a product that you can't live without? We'd love to hear about it! Email us at feedback@thelilpeanutpatch.com. You might just see your product featured here!

Suzi Homemaker

If you are doing some last minute shopping let me direct you to Suzi Homemaker. This "mom-owned" business specializes in personalized baby and children's gifts, as well as linens, school uniforms, and more! Some of my favorites include the overnight bag which is great for a trip to grandma's house or a sleepover.

The laptop case is wonderful too and don't forget, everything can be personalized in your choice of font and color!

Another favorite is the children's backpack's and travel cosmetic cases.
